Soccer Game Preview: Marion vs. Carterville

The Marion Wildcats will face off against the Carterville Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marion will be strutting in after a victory while Carterville will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Marion turned things around against Mt. Vernon on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 6-3 margin over the Rams. Marion's offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last six games.

They hit Mt. Vernon with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Gabriel Intravaia (3), Eduardo Perez, Myles Wiseman, and Louis Titze.

Meanwhile, Carterville fell victim to Carbondale and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Terriers by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for Carterville in their meetings with Carbondale: they've now lost six in a row.

Carterville's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Marion, their win bumped their record up to 5-14.

Everything went Marion's way against Carterville in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Marion made off with a 4-0 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
