Northland Christian falls despite strong effort from Andon "AJ" Newton

Recap: Northland Christian Cougars vs. Westbury Christian Wildcats

The Northland Christian Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 81-46 defeat at the hands of Westbury Christian. Northland Christian has not had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Northland Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Andon "AJ" Newton. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with three steals. Newton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel McKnight, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.

Westbury Christian was led to victory by Sebastian Mackey and Jason Scott. Mackey scored 22 points, while Scott almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Scott has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Javien Cummings, who scored ten points along with two steals.

Northland Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Westbury Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 16-14 record this season.

Northland Christian will head out on the road to take on the at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Francis Episcopal knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 12 matchups -- so hopefully the Cougars likes a good challenge. As for Westbury Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rosehill Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1212th, while the Wildcats are ranked 393rd).
