Baseball Recap: Hatton Takes a Loss

Hatton entered their match against Brooks on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Hatton Hornets fell 15-12 to the Brooks Lions. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 5-1.

Tasean Love was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Bryson Jeffreys led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hatton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-2 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was J.O. Czervionke, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his seven plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Hatton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. This was only their first loss (out of eight games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Hatton suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 10-7. As for Brooks, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-10 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hatton beat Brooks by a score of 5-4 later that day.
