Baseball Recap: Kouts Comes Up Short

Kouts has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.27 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They fell 10-5 to the New Prairie Cougars. The Mustangs & Fillies have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Kouts got a good showing from Tyler Gant, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gant has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cooper Whitaker was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Kouts' loss dropped their record down to 21-5. As for New Prairie, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-9.

Looking ahead, Kouts will welcome Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Prairie, they will square off against Mishawaka Marian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
