Basketball Game Preview: Corbin Redhounds vs. South Laurel Cardinals

The Corbin Redhounds will face off against the South Laurel Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Corbin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully South Laurel likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, everything came up roses for Corbin against Williamsburg as the squad secured an 87-49 win. Given the Redhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, South Laurel had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Colonels by a score of 66-55.

Corbin's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.4 points. As for South Laurel, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Corbin strolled past South Laurel when the teams last played on January 14th by a score of 66-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Corbin since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
