Basketball Preview: Barnwell Warhorses vs. Woodland Wolverines
After two games on the road, Barnwell is heading back home. They will take on the Woodland Wolverines at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Barnwell was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-52 to the Jaguars. Barnwell has struggled against the Jaguars recently, as their match on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Barnwell saw an underclassman step up: Vashahd Scofield scored 24 points. Scofield hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Henri Creech, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Woodland pushed their score all the way to 70 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 76-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hampton County.
Barnwell has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Woodland, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
Barnwell took a serious blow against the Wolverines when the teams last played back in January, falling 78-37. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Barnwell was down 44-16.
