Baseball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Comes Up Short

Sacred Heart Prep lost against San Mateo back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Sacred Heart Prep Gators fell 5-1 to the San Mateo Bearcats. The Gators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kyle Sweeney was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Sacred Heart Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Schmalzle, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Sacred Heart Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for San Mateo, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Sacred Heart Prep will head out to face off against Aragon at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Aragon's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Sacred Heart Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for San Mateo, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-4 loss against Hillsdale on the 10th.
