Football Recap: Pecos Triumphs Behind Punishing Ground Game

Pecos hadn't done well against Monahans recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Eagles snuck past the Loboes with a 20-14 victory. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 62-6 win the Loboes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Pecos found their leader in sophomore Amare Griffin, who rushed for 135 yards and two TDs.

Pecos was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 321 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

The victory got Pecos back to even at 3-3. As for Monahans, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pecos will square off against Shallowater at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monahans, they will challenge Snyder at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Loboes their first taste of in-conference action this season.
