Baseball Game Preview: Argonaut Mustangs vs. Calaveras Red Hawks

The Argonaut Mustangs will head out to face off against the Calaveras Red Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Argonaut nor Calaveras posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Antelope hit Argonaut with a five-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs lost 11-1 to the Titans. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Mustangs, who until this game were averaging 3.4 runs allowed.

Argonaut saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grady Nash, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Calaveras unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against El Dorado, falling 7-1.

Calaveras' loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Argonaut, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Argonaut has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calaveras struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Argonaut's way against Calaveras in their previous meeting back in February, as Argonaut made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
