Football Recap: Grant Comes Up Short

Thursday just wasn't the day for Grant's offense. They took a blow against the Putnam City Pirates on Thursday, falling 56-0. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Pirates are ranked 42nd).

Ja'Mere Martin threw for 40 yards on four of ten attempts. Tae'Von Alexander was his top target, picking up 31 receiving yards.

Putnam City had a senior duo take command as Rodgerick Sloan gained 174 total yards and two touchdowns and Schuylar Turnbull threw for 155 yards and three TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes. Sloan was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 53 yards.

Grant is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5. As for Putnam City, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Grant will square off against rival Choctaw at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Putnam City is set to challenge their familiar foe Stillwater at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Pirates 12.7, the Pioneers 9) so any points scored will be well earned.
