Football Recap: Grant Generals vs. Putnam City Pirates
Grant extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-5. They were outmatched by the Putnam City Pirates and fell 56-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Generals were not able to get on the board.
Ja'Mere Martin threw for 40 yards on four of ten attempts. Tae'Von Alexander was his top target, picking up 31 receiving yards.
As for Putnam City, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points over those games.
Putnam City was led to victory by Rodgerick Sloan and Schuylar Turnbull. Sloan gained 174 total yards and two touchdowns, while Turnbull threw for 155 yards and three TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes. Sloan got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 53 yards.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Grant is set to take on their familiar foe Choctaw at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Putnam City will face off against rival Stillwater at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Pirates 12.7, the Pioneers 9) so any points scored will be well earned.
