Season Preview:
Last season ended in gut-wrenching fashion for the Colonels, who fell 80-76 in overtime of the UIL Class 6A state semifinals to Tompkins (Katy).

This year, South Garland returns the bulk of its core from last season — led by the elite guard duo of Maxey and Harris Jr.

The biggest question surrounding this talented group is how it will compete against the elite teams of high school basketball while lacking a true post presence. Their tallest player is listed at 6-foot-5 after Dearon Tucker announced he would be transferring.

Despite their lack of height, Junior MaxPreps All-American honorable mention selection Maxey will attempt to end his high school career with a strong finish and a potential McDonald's All-American nomination.

With virtually all their production from last season returning, look for South Garland to make a serious run at the Texas Class 6A state crown this season.
