Basketball Game Preview: Godby Cougars vs. Chiles Timberwolves

Godby is 2-8 against Chiles since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Godby Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chiles Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. Godby is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.

Last Wednesday, Godby was fully in charge, breezing past Taylor County 69-12. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 502nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kenijah Clayton and Cristina Brown were among the main playmakers for Godby as the former went 9 of 10 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight boards and seven assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Logan Cornelius, who went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points and six rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Godby was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Chiles was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against Lincoln, falling 60-36.

Godby is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.9 points per game. As for Chiles, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
