Basketball Recap: Mckenna Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sunbright over Oakdale

Sunbright was the 51-30 winner over Oakdale when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sunbright Tigers fell 56-48 to the Oakdale Eagles on Saturday. While the Tigers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 20-14 in the first quarter.

Sunbright lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mckenna Smith, who posted 19 points in addition to six assists and three steals. That was a full 39.6% of Sunbright's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Madeline Petrey, who put up seven points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Sunbright smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches.
