Preview: Amory Panthers vs. Caledonia Cavaliers
Amory and Caledonia are an even 3-3 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Amory Panthers will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Caledonia Cavaliers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Amory is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Amory, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-50 loss to New Albany. While losing is never fun, Amory can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while New Albany is ranked 23rd).
Meanwhile, Caledonia came tearing into Monday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 68-51 victory over Hatley.
Amory's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Caledonia, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Amory was able to grind out a solid win over Caledonia when the teams last played back in November of 2022, winning 56-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Amory since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
