Baseball Recap: Plainview Drops Season-High Score on Marksville

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Elizabeth, Plainview was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They skirted past the Marksville Tigers 5-3. The Hornets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Caleb Calhoun was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He also put up two hits, which were his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caden Lee, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Plainview's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Marksville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Plainview will have a chance to go back-to-back against Marksville: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
