Baseball Game Preview: San Marcos Knights vs. Maranatha Christian Eagles

The San Marcos Knights will take on the Maranatha Christian Eagles in a tournament on Tuesday. San Marcos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Maranatha Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

San Marcos saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Santa Fe Christian.

Isaac Esquer was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, San Marcos saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stephen Pittman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. That's the most hits Pittman has posted since back in May of 2024. Grayson Wren also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Maranatha Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rancho Buena Vista. One positive for the Eagles, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Shane Piester put in work no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Maranatha Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for San Marcos, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
