Softball Recap: Hueytown Drops Season-High Score on Bessemer City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hueytown). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bessemer City Tigers a 20-0 shutout on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Gophers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won nine in a row.

Bryanna Kemp made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, K Kennedy was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-2. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Johnson, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.

Hueytown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .844. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hueytown's record is now 19-13. As for Bessemer City, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hueytown beat the Tigers by a score of 16-0 later that day.
