Volleyball Recap: Gilman Pirates vs. Colby Hornets
Gilman's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They skirted past the Colby Hornets 3-2. This was payback for the Pirates, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Gilman had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 25-27, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-10.
Kayleigh James was nothing short of spectacular: she had 24 digs and two aces. That's the most aces she has posted since back in October of 2023.
Despite the loss, Colby still got an impressive performance from Tori Underwood, who had 24 digs. Underwood is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in the last three games she's played dating back to last season.
Gilman now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Colby, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-8.
Gilman wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-0 win against Solon Springs on the 12th. As for Colby, they will take on Mellen at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
