Basketball Recap: Grafton Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Grafton lost against New Kent back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Grafton Clippers took a hard 78-59 fall against the New Kent Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Clippers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while the Trojans are ranked 25th).

Several Clippers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaden Brown, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 15 points and six boards. Those 15 points gave Brown a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malaki Battle, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

New Kent's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyle Diggs, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Ross, who posted 20 points and four steals.

Grafton's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-9. As for New Kent, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 19-0.

Grafton will square off against Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Grafton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups. As for New Kent, they will take on Jamestown at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in New Kent's favor as the team sits on 12 straight wins at home while Jamestown has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
