Basketball Recap: Lake City Piles Up the Points Against Buford

With a playoff win on the line, Lake City rose to the challenge on Monday. They claimed a resounding 60-22 win over the Buford Yellow Jackets. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 236th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lake City found their leader in sophomore Hannah Riles, who posted 18 points. Riles has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Na'Shira Starks, who scored ten points and seven rebounds.

Lake City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Lake City has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Buford, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

As of now, neither Lake City nor Buford have any future games scheduled.
