Softball Recap: Meridian Has No Trouble Against Maroa-Forsyth

Meridian barely beat Maroa-Forsyth the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 6-0 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Ashley Schelling's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Meridian saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Meisenhelter, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Madi Kapchinske was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meridian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meridian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Maroa-Forsyth, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.

Looking ahead, Meridian will head out to square off against Nokomis at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Redskins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.62 runs per game on average), something the Hawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Maroa-Forsyth, they will host Tolono Unity at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rockets will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
