Lutheran has won seven straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Northfield has won seven straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Lions will host the Nighthawks at 3:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lutheran is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Discovery Canyon 16-9 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Thunder: they've now won six in a row.
Ryan McDougal made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Wesolowski, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyce Macnamara, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.
Lutheran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Northfield got themselves on the board against Overland on Saturday, but Overland never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Trailblazers with a sharp 28-0 victory. Considering the Nighthawks have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Charlie Hayes looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Northfield got a massive performance out of Henry Luther, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Phiel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs.
Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Northfield, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Lutheran's way against Northfield in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Lutheran made off with a 19-7 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Nighthawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
