Baseball Recap: Las Animas Comes Up Short

Las Animas was the 2-1 winner over Rye when they last played one another back in April, but their luck changed this time around. The Trojans fell just short of the Thunderbolts by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Braydon Ortiz put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Ortiz wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gio Chavez, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Las Animas' loss dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Rye, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-10.

As of now, neither Las Animas nor the Thunderbolts have any future games scheduled.
