Baseball Recap: Thurston Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Renaissance, Thurston was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Redford Union Panthers. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.

Denell Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Thurston let Kosta Haack and Desmond Ferguson run wild. Haack got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ferguson went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Haack is becoming a predictor of Thurston's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 2-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Cortez Crumble, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Thurston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Thurston's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Redford Union, they are on a 30-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-30.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thurston will head out to square off against Ypsilanti at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Redford Union, they will challenge Gabriel Richard at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
