Volleyball Recap: Marana Tigers vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers
Marana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Salpointe Catholic Lancers. If the Tigers were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Lancers when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Marana wouldn't go down easily and took Salpointe Catholic into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking three-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.
Salpointe Catholic found their leader in sophomore Ethan Pinkney, who had 31 digs and three assists. Those 31 digs set a new season-high mark for Pinkney.
Marana's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Salpointe Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Marana and Tucson High Magnet School will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Salpointe Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Mica Mountain at 5:30 p.m. The Thunderbolts will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Lancers surely won't give up without a fight.
