Basketball Recap: Western Guilford Takes a Loss

It was a classic East v. West duel when Western Guilford duked it out withSoutheast Guilford on Wednesday. The match between the Western Guilford Hornets and the Southeast Guilford Falcons didn't end well, with the Western Guilford Hornets falling 61-43. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 354th, while the Falcons are ranked 122nd).

When it comes to explaining why Western Guilford lost, don't look at Leila Henderson. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Henderson has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Uche Okeke, who posted two points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Morgan Odom was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds for Southeast Guilford. The contest was Odom's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Iyahna Staton, who had six points and ten boards.

Western Guilford has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Southeast Guilford, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-4.

Western Guilford wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-43 defeat against Ragsdale on the 17th. Southeast Guilford has also already played their next contest, a 58-48 loss against Page on the 17th.
