Baseball Recap: Hoggard Takes a Loss

Hoggard fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Laney on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 5-4. The Vikings have struggled against the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Hoggard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Bush, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jonah Harker was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Hoggard's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Laney, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoggard will challenge Ashley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Screaming Eagle's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Laney, they will square off against New Hanover at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Buccaneers have won four straight at home, while the Wildcats won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
