Basketball Recap: Beech Grove Piles Up the Points Against Indianapolis Lutheran

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Indianapolis Shortridge, Beech Grove was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They really took it to the Indianapolis Lutheran Saints for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-25 victory. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-13.

Beech Grove was led to victory by Mariyah Marshall and Mylee Boling. Marshall went 6 of 14 en route to 13 points and seven steals, while Boling went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points along with eight boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Marshall a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Joslyn Johnson, who posted nine points.

Beech Grove smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Indianapolis Lutheran saw an underclassman step up: freshman Shae Olson put up 12 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Rose, who had eight points.

Beech Grove has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Indianapolis Lutheran, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Beech Grove didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 69-33 loss against Franklin Central on the 12th. Indianapolis Lutheran and Central Christian Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Central Christian Academy will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Indianapolis Lutheran surely won't give up without a fight.
