The Discovery Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Santa Fe Catholic Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Discovery knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 contests -- so hopefully Santa Fe Catholic likes a good challenge.
Discovery stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Liberty 81-39 on the road. Given Discovery's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Liberty is ranked 552nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Willie Wilson was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lucson Jean, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe Catholic unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Victory Christian Academy by a score of 65-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Santa Fe Catholic has suffered yet this season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Danilo Stankovic, who scored 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Darner, who scored 21 points along with two steals.
Discovery has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Santa Fe Catholic, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-3.
Discovery lost to Santa Fe Catholic on the road by a decisive 73-55 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Discovery avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
