Basketball Game Preview: Cesar E. Chavez Lobos vs. Heights Bulldogs

Cesar E. Chavez is 1-9 against Heights since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos will venture away from home to challenge the Heights Bulldogs at 12:30 p.m. Cesar E. Chavez is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.

Last Saturday, Cesar E. Chavez earned a 48-39 victory over Wisdom.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cesar E. Chavez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Grant Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 boards. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Samad Naylor-Walters, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds.

Cesar E. Chavez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Heights waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They claimed a resounding 80-21 win over the Generals. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Generals are ranked 1516th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Heights is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-11 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points per game. As for Cesar E. Chavez, their victory bumped their record up to 9-11.

Cesar E. Chavez couldn't quite finish off Heights in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 54-52. Can Cesar E. Chavez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
