Softball Recap: Conner Takes a Loss

Conner fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Ryle on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 8-7. The Cougars' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Kayla Ortiz and Averie Lightner did some serious damage despite the final result: Ortiz went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Lightner went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Alexa Hamilton was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Conner's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 15-7-2. As for Ryle, their victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-6.

Conner has already played their next contest (against Harrison County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Ryle, they will take on Pendleton County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
