Baseball Recap: Archie Wins Going Away Against Barstow

Archie lost to Barstow back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Whirlwinds were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Knights. Considering the Whirlwinds have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Cotton Killian made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Killian was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Kale Snook was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Archie's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jackson Kash, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Archie has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Barstow, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's still a better percentage than their 5-16 record this season.

Archie will head out to square off against Butler at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Barstow has already played their next contest (against University Academy Charter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
