Volleyball Recap: Classical Comes Up Short

If Classical was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Chariho on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Purple fell just short of the East Greenwich Avengers by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Purple were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Avengers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Classical sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-10.

Despite the loss, Classical still got an impressive performance from Jeraldy Herrera Santos, who had 35 digs and three assists. Herrera Santos has been hot, having posted 12 or more digs the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronan Rivera, who had 11 digs and two aces.

Classical's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for East Greenwich, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7.

Classical has already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Cranston West on the 9th. As for East Greenwich, they will host North Kingstown at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Skippers will roll in looking for their 20th straight win, something the Avengers surely won't give up without a fight.
