Basketball Recap: Wellman-Union Wildcats vs. Whitharral Panthers
After soaring to 68 points the game before, Wellman-Union was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 98-29 loss at the hands of the Whitharral Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 79-25 back in January.
Whitharral's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Griffin, who went 8 for 12 en route to 21 points and eight steals. The dominant performance gave Griffin a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Nathaniel Sansom, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds.
Wellman-Union has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-19 record this season. As for Whitharral, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 19-6.
