Basketball Game Preview: Johnson Central Golden Eagles vs. Shelby Valley Wildcats

The Johnson Central Golden Eagles will take on the Shelby Valley Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Johnson Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Johnson Central challenged Pike County Central last Tuesday. Johnson Central took a 72-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pike County Central.

Despite their defeat, Johnson Central saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Brayden Shepherd, who went 5 for 12 en route to 18 points, was perhaps the best of all. The contest was Shepherd's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Slone, who went 9 of 22 on his way to 25 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Johnson Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

While Shelby Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They secured a 77-73 W over Floyd Central on Tuesday.

Shelby Valley's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Johnson Central, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
