Basketball Recap: Jabarri Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Valdosta over Blythewood

Valdosta suffered their biggest defeat since February 24, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against the Blythewood Bengals, falling 78-56. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 88th in Georgia, while the Bengals are ranked 15th in South Carolina).

Valdosta lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jabarri Williams, who posted 13 points and seven assists. Williams has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Shawn Evans, who had 13 points.

Valdosta has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Blythewood, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-2.

Valdosta didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-52 victory against Walker on the 30th. As for Blythewood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-65 win against Greater Atlanta Christian on the 30th.
