Gorham has gone 8-1 against Thornton Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Rams will head out to take on the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. Gorham is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Thursday, Gorham made easy work of Noble and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Gorham took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-13, 25-14.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Thornton Academy and Marshwood, and Thornton Academy kept the tradition alive. The Trojans came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Thornton Academy was especially dominant in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-20, 27-25, 21-25, 25-13.
Gorham better keep an eye on Brooklyn Desrochers. She was instrumental in Thornton Academy's win, getting 15 digs and two aces. Those 15 digs gave Desrochers a new career-high. Ginevra Focaccio also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
Thornton Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces every time they've taken the court this season.
Gorham's record now sits at 6-2. As for Thornton Academy, their record is now 6-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Gorham has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 12.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Thornton Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 15.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
