Baseball Recap: Poudre Comes Up Short

Greeley West hit Poudre with a four-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Impalas fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 8-7. The Impalas were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Angelo Vieira put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Poudre is 2-1 when Vieira posts three or more hits, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brady Santillanes made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Poudre's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-4. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 2.5 runs. As for Greeley West, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-8.
