Football Game Preview: Sickles Gryphons vs. Sunlake Seahawks

The Sickles Gryphons will face off against the Sunlake Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Sickles 4.2, Sunlake 7.4) so any points scored will be well earned.

Sickles' offense might be in the hot seat on Wednesday considering what happened against Tampa Catholic on Wednesday. The match between Sickles and the Crusaders didn't end well, with Sickles falling 19-0. The Gryphons' defeat signaled the end of their undefeated season.

Even if they lost, Sickles' defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Brooke Gonzales. What's more, she posted three total tackles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Sunlake entered their tilt with Hudson on Tuesday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 48-0 win over the Cobras. The Seahawks' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a point in their last three games.

Sunlake found their leader in sophomore Kate Smith, who threw for 111 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76% of her passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Smith has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Miley Falby, who picked up 53 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Sunlake's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Sickles, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
