Basketball Game Preview: Somerset Prep vs. Westminster Academy Lions

Somerset Prep will square off against the Westminster Academy Lions on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Somerset Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 92-23 victory over Chaminade-Madonna. The win was nothing new for Somerset Prep as they're now sitting on five straight.

Chardae Rumph was her usual excellent self, putting up 27 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Isyss Mims was another key player, earning 17 points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westminster Academy). They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat David Posnack Jewish Day 89-17. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Rams are ranked 434th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westminster Academy is also on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Somerset Prep, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-9.

Somerset Prep strolled past Westminster Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a score of 58-39. Will Somerset Prep repeat their success, or does Westminster Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
