Baseball Recap: Coalgate Takes a Loss

Coalgate fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Colbert on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Leopards by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Leopards this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 back in March.

Jett Walkup put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Coalgate is 2-1 when Walkup allows three or fewer hits, but 10-11 otherwise. Walkup was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Easton Loudermilk was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Coalgate's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Colbert, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Coalgate will challenge Okarche at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Colbert, they will square off against Achille at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
