Basketball Recap: Lejeune Devil Pups vs. Pamlico County Hurricanes
The Lejeune Devil Pups struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Pamlico County Hurricanes had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Lejeune lost to the Hurricanes at home by a decisive 57-42 margin. Lejeune has struggled against the Hurricanes recently, as their game on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Lejeune lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Abigail Gonzales, who scored 13 points along with five steals. Gonzales is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed five or more in the last three games she's played. Scarlett McLean was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Pamlico County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nya Clark out in front who scored 19 points along with six steals. Clark is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Whitley-Reese, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds.
Lejeune's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Pamlico County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-10.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Southside the next time they take the court. Pamlico County will host Southside at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Lejeune will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
