Baseball Recap: Sierra Comes Up Short

Sierra had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-14 to make it 11. They lost 24-1 to the Sand Creek Scorpions. If the Stallions were looking for revenge after losing 20-0 to the Scorpions when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Sand Creek, they moved to 9-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Sand Creek's part, Logan Rockhold made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Rockhold has become a key player for Sand Creek: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Rockhold was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Avyn Walter was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Sand Creek's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Shaun Lind also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

While Sierra had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
