Baseball Recap: Dove Creek Falls to Shiprock in First Game of Season

Dove Creek had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They lost 19-6 to the Shiprock Chieftains. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Chieftains recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Sheldon Gardner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

Shiprock's victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dove Creek will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Nucla at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give Dove Creek their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. As for Shiprock, they will challenge Monument Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
