Softball Recap: Valley Regional Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Valley Regional nor Somers made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Warriors walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Spartans. The game was the first time the Warriors have beaten the Spartans on their field since April 14, 2018.

Paige Williams was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Juliana Spencer was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Carley Spearrin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Valley Regional has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Somers, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Valley Regional will take on Haddam-Killingworth at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Somers, they will face off against Canton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
