The North Providence Cougars will venture away from home to  face off against the Narragansett Mariners  at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. North Providence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5  runs per game  this season.
North Providence is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another  one of Rhode Island's top teams: Smithfield, who was ranked tenth  at the time (North Providence was ranked ninth). The Cougars took  a  6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sentinels on Saturday. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
 North Providence saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Jayden Allard, who  went 1-for-3 with one  run.
 Meanwhile, Narragansett was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight  loss. They came up short against  Barrington, falling  12-4. The pitching woes were  uncharacteristic for the Mariners, who until this  game were averaging 3.69  runs allowed.
 Narragansett now  has a losing record of 6-7. As for North Providence, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart  on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. North Providence has been retiring batters left and right this season,  having  averaged 6.9  strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Narragansett struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 8.2  strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
 North Providence couldn't quite finish off Narragansett in their previous meeting  back in April of 2024 and fell  4-2. Can the Cougars avenge their  loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
