Softball Recap: Johnson Find Success

Johnson had won three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 8-9 to make it four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Fairfield Falcons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since February 26, 2025.

Angelene Gonzales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Ivette Villar was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leticia Gonzales, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

As for Fairfield, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2. They have struggled against Johnson recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Like Johnson, Fairfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Karli Robinson. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Robinson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Johnson will take on rival Foothill at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Fairfield is set to square off against their familiar foe Florin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
