Basketball Recap: Chilton Comes Up Short

Chilton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 42-35 to the Axtell Longhorns. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 41-40 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Chilton lost, don't look at Mariyah Suiters. Despite the final result, she dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 14 steals. That was a full 42.9% of Chilton's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Novia Coleman, who earned five points along with 12 boards and three steals.

Chilton's record now sits at 9-12. As for Axtell, their victory bumped their record up to 12-10.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Mart the next time they take the court. Axtell will host Mart at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Chilton will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 21st.
