Softball Recap: Alton Comets vs. Doniphan Dons
Alton extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 3-7 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Doniphan Dons. The Comets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Dons from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for Doniphan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
For Doniphan's part, MacKay Jackson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Jackson has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Dalila Watson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Audrey Watson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
While Alton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
